FREEWRITTEN POEMS WRITTEN FROM MY "INTRO TO OPERA CLASS"

MONTEVERDI (Notes from Intro to Opera)

ACT I

Tingles up my spine-
Purest beauty pours evenly and cleanly from this
spouted vessel.
Coming and going-
Crescendo/ de-crescendo-
as natural as day to night.
Tears build behind my softened eyes,
the meanings of words now a futile
effort-
a meaningless gesture, a
novelty expenditure for
the deaf-
An ancient language from a dream I
will someday know.
Jovial dance of rhythm and color-
Deny me my sight, I am
Craving this rawest form.

ACT IV

Elegant progression fueled by
definable desires-
Inevitable desires- the same
Beauty of man, that is
The footprints to
His pre-determined existence, as
a crescendo building confidently
to catastrophe.

A terrible beauty in breakdown-
Delightful demise to a
Creature of
Instinct

A dramatic nobility, a
Fleeting infinity.
