FREEWRITTEN POEMS FROM MY INTRO TO OPERA CLASS

CEASAR AND CLEOPATRA (NOTES FROM INTRO TO OPERA)

HANDEL I

Intricate lapsing layers of
ornamental fragments build to
a royal march of
men-
Angelic expressions of vocal
lustre laced among the
approaching horns-

Castrati?

Men simply weren’t meant
to sing so
beautifully-
close your eyes, listen from
primary source-
much better-

Orchestral accompaniment becomes
Backdrop for
The intertwining dialogue of
Various vocal
ranges.
Feeling rising intensity-
Conflict apparent and with closed
Eyes, I see two sides
to this transluscent
composition.

HANDEL II

Among the inquiring feminine
dialogue,
delicate instrumentation punctuates
each remark,
and
sonically proclaims each elegant
response,
with a remarkable, meandering,
sensibility-
just before falling secondary to their own
passively prominent- maternal
desires.

HANDEL III

Confident in its subtle
Inflection-
elderly, intuitive,
stagnant in its meticulous placement.
Cicular and self-aware of
its own
recurrance.
